Score adjustment on RealBridge

Last night we had 7+half tables on RB. On the penultimate round, one of the pair sitting out decided not to stick around for the last round. The pair that the deportees were due to play against in the last round didn't therefore get a chance to play that last round.

There were mitigating circumstances - the individual concerned is quadriplegic and struggles towards the end of an evening. Secondly, this was the first time that I had decided to play 13 rounds of 2-boards rather than just 12 so we were finishing later than usual.

I decided to award a +/= score to each hand for the pair deprived. I thought that fair. Effectively not penalising the early departees because of the mitigating circumstances. Was this "correct"? Or should I have awarded +/- anyway.

It does, however, potentially raise the added problem - what happens if a player disappears near the end due to a technical issue (eg lost internet). Should the same adjustment be made?

  • I think you should award Av =/- anyway. You don't want to encourage someone with a good lead to get ill on the last round and still win the event. People who leave early due to illness don't expect to get much for the boards they miss and it's not usually the most important thing on their mind.
