System Cards (or lack thereof)

I am currently directing an online event and a player called me to ask what would happen if an opponent failed to provide a system card, specifically asking would they be forced to play "simple systems". He said that he played at a recent Green Pointed event where a pair was forced to play "simple systems" because they did not have a system card available.

I've had a quick look in the Blue/White books and can't find anything to suggest that this is what should happen in this circumstance - could anyone point me in the right direction if that is correct?

  • It’s not correct. We stopped that many years ago because it was impractical. Tell them they must disclose their agreements properly or they will be suspended for the rest of the session.
  • Thank you Gordon.

  • Because it seemed to be a question needing an immediate answer, I didn't go into it fully and say that what is important is full disclosure rather than necessarily following the system card regs to the detail. We are generally more relaxed in short online games where people have straightforward methods than in congresses, whether online or face-to-face. A short summary at the start of a round is sufficient for most of our daily online games if the system is uncomplicated and any alertable calls are alerted and described properly. If they fail to do this, they will lose the benefit of any doubt in misinformation rulings that might arise.

  • Yes OK that was pretty much what I said and what I had gathered from previous discussions on the subject - just panicked a little when the player's recent experience was so different from my own recent expierence!
