Player doesn't hear

(Real situation - I have simplified the situation to focus on the law aspects).

Playing on RealBridge, I get called to table, and while I'm there I see something I'm not happy about. I ask all then players to pause while I talk in private to North. East, who is having issues with sound, bids on having not heard my instruction.

Do I unwind (I have, after all, told them not to continue) or does E's bid stand?

If I unwind, has E made a withdrawn call (or has it never happened)? Is the withdrawn/never made call UI or EI?

  • Resolve the earlier matter first and see if there is any need to cancel the call. If there is, treat the player as offending (which simply means "responsible for the situation", not necessarily "did something wrong".)

  • This does seem best, I think if you do have to cancel the call the law on UI from a withdrawn call should apply.

The only laws I could think of here were Law 9 on procedure following an irregularity, particularly 9 B 2, and Law 11 on forfeiture of the right to rectification.

Neither of which are specific about any course of action.

  • By player do you mean the person who bid on?

  • Yes, the player who bid after being asked not to would be responsible for the situation arising.
