Obtaining dedicated premises

Our club, Market Hatborough Bridge Club, (MHBC) rent rooms for playing twice a week, different rooms for teaching and supervised play. We would like to have our own dedicated room. I would like to hear how other clubs have managed this. Philip House

  • Hi Philip,
Well it’s a story which goes back to 2003. Leeds Bridge Club was a nomad and had constantly moved premises.
We eventually settled on a Community centre and played in the hall. We didn’t realise at the time, they had some spare land next to the main building.
Long story short, we agreed and drew up some plans for a good size extension. A dedicated room where tables remained up and no need to put bidding boxes away.
The Club had saved up a sum of money, but not enough. Members were polled at an EGM and agreed if they would pledge Chunks/shares at £xxx each to reach the total for the project. In return, at the time we offered an annual interest of 5%pa, with an expectation of all loans being paid off within 5 years.
This was quite a success, starting with 100 members and increasing to around 300 members about three years later.
Hope this may give you some ideas.
Happy to chat offline if you wish.
    Kind regards Steve
