Teams of 8
That time of year approaches where Garden Cities / Teams of 8 heats are running. I have 5 teams and want a secure tera break so will run 2 sessions of 4 rounds of 5 boards. Have set this up in TeamsScore as:
- 4 base sessions. Red / Blue and Sessions 1/2
- Then merge the session 1 Red/blue to give an interim half-time score (IMPs only at this point)
- Then Merge session2 sections-
- Finally merge the 2 sessions.
Then setup the final Merged sessions as:
...to get an aggregated IMP then add then VP across matches of 10 boards.
Overlooked anything?

You can play each session as two complete matches - using "4N+1" movement for 5 tables.
Single match between teams will calculate the VP over the boards from both sessions - this is recommended.
Best to set Boards per Match - this is the boards played by a team - EBUScore will calculate the appropriate VP scale for teams-of-eight (as per White Book)
There is a document 'Running Teams of 8' which covers this. The Boards per match can be left to be calculated.
Note you will need to do the Seating Lineup. You can change the EWs at half time and reflect that in the Seating Lineup.
As an aside this is much much easier to run using Club Teams - its all set up in a single event entry and the seating is right. I have run two Teams of 8 with ClubTeams recently with no problem.
I can confirm what Jeff says. I have always run Kent's Garden Cities qualifier on EBUScore. The top divisions are of 5 teams and we play 3 movements of lines so every pair plays every other pair. The last round being a Howell tyoe movement scored barometer style to try to increase the tension. To set this up in EBUScore takes 13 interconnected events (it may be possible with 9 but 13 makes a logical structure and I know it works). This year the bottom division had 9 teams with 2 movents of lines so the stationary lines did not meet each other. In ClubTeams this was just one event and was far easier to set up. I plan to use it for all divisions next year once I have checked out the seating line-up for the Howell-type movement but this seems to be the same as EBUScore so I expect it to work
Must admit I was completely unaware of ClubTeams. Have downloaded and now experimenting with it; so far looks so much easier.
Thank you for the pointer. I never cease to be amazed by how much I don't know!!
Can someone please send link to the document "Running Teams of 8".
I can email the document - if you give me an address. I have a version for ebuscoreteams and for clubteams.
At the handover, the EBU published its own online document (which is very good!), but Ian in 2018 (for EBUScore) previously and Jonathan (for ClubScore) now have should have all the manuals written previously.
Hopefully all intuitive with ClubTeams, but you can direct any queries to me if you like (jasmith@nildram.co.uk)
(The EBU issued version is not quite the latest, but there hasnt been any significant changes in that).
