Hesitation Mitchell

Our club has a member who insists a Hesitation Mitchell is very unfair, citing umpteen reasons why.
We play 26/27 boards per session. Our problem with 10 and a half and 11-12 tables Mitchell move is that there are too many unplayed

Comments

  • Hesitation Mitchell movements have several stationary pairs, unlike a Howell.
Great for players who prefer to sit , maybe because of physical disability

  • Hesitation (Manning P89) is much the best club movement for 10 and a half or 11 tables. It is 24 boards (12 x 2 board rounds) with NS at Tables 1-10 sitting and only a 2 board sitout (and one winner). There are arrow switches at rounds 11 and 12.

For 11 and a half or 12 tables, its best to use a Share/Relay with Tables 1 and 12 sharing (relay after Table 6) and make NS 12 missing pair if necessary.

I think 26/27 boards is too much for a single session club duplicate - suggest you aim for 24 boards.

  • Hesitation mitchells are one of the recommended movements in this document from the EBU
