EBUScore Lead Validation

I switched on Lead Validation in BCS Options in EBUScore Pairs. At the club's most recent session with this option set, for most results the BridgeMates refused the entered lead. They displayed the error message (something like) "Declarer or Opening Lead incorrect".

The only resolution was to work through the cards present in the hand of the person on lead. Often, reportedly, the lead accepted was the standard lead from the back page of the EBU's score card -- the A4 folded card which has the partnership's system summarised on the front and back while the scores are recorded on the inside. I wasn't at this session so I don't have a precise record of what happened but I do trust the "witnesses".

Has anyone encountered behaviour like this? I'd be grateful for any suggestions or insights. I've switched off lead validation until we can get to the bottom of what's happening.

Thanks in advance.

  • I know it's obvious, but have you checked that the correct deal file was uploaded?

I wasn't there Gordon, but I've just checked the travellers from our results page and it looks as though the wrong hands were indeed loaded.
Thank you for stating the obvious!

  • I once had the same problem as Gordon suggested. I correct Deal File.
However, I wondered what would happen with a correct Deal File, if an opening Lead out of Turn was accepted by declarer.

You have to lie about the lead or the declarer.

You can correct the lead/declarer in EBUScore

That's what I remember last time I looked at this particular law of unintended consequences
