Auction problem with the stop card!

North/South play Benji. North is dealer and opens 1 club. (J,x,x,x,x,xClubs.A,K,xSpades. A,J,Hearts. x,x.Diamonds... East passes. South then takes out the stop card and calls 2Clubs! West doesn't call but states "you don't need a stop card for 2 clubs" South, then states sorry I missed the 1 club opener. In this situation can the 2 club call be withdrawn and replaced by 4clubs (which, would comply with the use of the stop card) as 4clubs is Gerber in the N/S partnership agreement?
If the laws prohibit such action would a call in the auction 1Diamond, pass, 3Diamonds (No STOP card) , 2Hearts !?! be acceptable ?

Comments

  • No, at the time the player bid 2C, that was the intentional bid so it can't be changed. The stop card and the comments provide UI to North, which may limit what actions they can take. South however will be free to do as they please, if the auction continues for another round.

In your second example, 2H would be insufficient.

    Thankyou for the prompt response

  • I always feel that it's best not to comment on misuse of the Stop card
