Slow play (again)

  • I find it rarely reaches that point if you keep the pressure on slow pairs, but I also find most pairs are happy to get 60% and be able to play their remaining board at leisure rather than trying to catch up with slow opponents.

  • “But now you have 4 pairs seriously upset…”

I mentioned in a different thread about ‘the nature of bridge clubs’.

Gordon’s approach offers a clear, pragmatic way to deal with slow play. If it is in the nature of the TD or bridge club to endure slow play at the risk of upsetting individuals by making them take an average, then slow play is more a consequence of the nature of things than a problem to be dealt with.

If a TD is not receiving ‘earache’ because the sessions are finishing 15-30 minutes later than they ought to be, then it would appear that slow play isn’t a problem at their bridge club.
