Revoke (Dummy's right to enquire/intervene)

It appears that, during play, Dummy is not allowed to intervene to correct a revoke (but I may have it wrong). If that is the case and Dummy does intervene, what is the penalty?

REVOKE (LAW 61-64)

Right to enquire: Declarer may ask Defender, Dummy may ask Declarer, Dummy may NOT ask Defender, Defender may ask Declarer and his partner. Note: Rule does not say Dummy is precluded from accusing at the end of play and before then end of the round. LAW 42b3 Dummy may draw attention to any irregularity, but only after play of the hand is concluded.

Comments

  • I would have preferred to say "enquiring" or "drawing attention" rather than "accusing". There is no automatic penalty for dummy asking the defenders, and it will often be to their disadvantage since it will avoid a revoke from being established. However, if the declaring side does gain from it the TD can make an adjustment at the end of play and/or fine them. If a penalty card would be created by the question, it is possible for the TD to deem it not to be one.
