Removal of a board from a Mitchell movement
At a club session this week the director removed a board from the final round [of three boards] as time was running out.
As every board played prior to that had a possible 14 MPs, having been played by 8 pairs, there was for each of those an even numbered split of MPs, 9/5, 4/10 (etc) it all looked neat and understandable. Then someone asked me why boards 3,6,9,12, etc (those tables where only two boards were played ) were showing two places of decimals. It did still add up to 14, for example, 5.86/8.14 and 12.71/1.29 . I score manually and must confess I just trust EBUpairs scorer to do the right thing, BUT I would very much like to understand why and be able to explain it to someone who is not necessarily VERY mathematically minded. I guess it is a rounding issue?, base 12 instead of 14 expressed as a %? BUT a proper explanation would be very valued. I did try searching first before posting, but it was such an odd question! ANY Help much appreciated.
