14 Table Movement

We will shortly be playing the semi-final of the County Pairs Championship F2F.
The highest placed 16 pairs proceed to the all-play-all final.
Before the pandemic we would have about 20 tables and run a 24 board Arrow-switched Web-Mitchell.
Sadly looks like there will be no more than 14 tables this year.
I am thinking of running an ordinary Mitchell(with arrow switches) truncated to 12 rounds.
But is there a 'better'/'fairer'/more balanced alternative?
(What ever we do I expect someone will moan that they have been fixed by the movement!)

Why not still run an arrow-switched Web Mitchell? At least everyone will play all the boards.

  • With those numbers, I would like to play a two-session final, rather than semi-final and final. You can play some arrow-switched mitchell (24-28 boards) and then two 7-table howells (24 or 26 boards), This is almost all-play-all - 28+26 boards would be all-play-all.

  • Thanks.
Changing to a two session final will involve logistical complications - maybe next year.
So I think the Web-Mitchell is best.
