Teams Scoring

We know in a pairs game, Av+/Av+ awards 60% (or better if pairs averaged higher) to both sides.

In a Teams match, does Av+/Av+ award +3 Imps to both sides ? or is it 0 Imps each as one cancels the other?
WB 8.90.3 (e) suggests to me 0 Imps, but currently EBUScoreTeams is awarding the 3 Imps?

(Ref WB 8.90.3 quotes "AVE+/AVE+ or AVE/AVE or AVE−/AVE− make no difference in the result of a match." The problem is in a Multiple Teams rather than Head to Head match, it may affect the winner?)

Comments

  • Av+/Av+ in teams is normally becuse the board has become unplayable through no fault of either side. The default position then is to play a substitute board at both tables. Law 86 and the White Book deal with situations where this is not possible.

  • It becomes significant when the scores are converted to Victory Points, in which case the total VPs for the match can come to more than 20.

  • WB 8.90.3 is Penalties and adjustments at knockout teams

In knockout teams, any artificial score where both sides are equally at fault (e.g. both not at fault) should not affect the match outcome. But Law 86B may apply.

For multiple teams, including league matches, +3 IMP to both sides makes a different to scoring the board as flat, regardless of whether there is conversion to VP.
