Bridgemate settings
I had a problem getting the Bridgemates to behave as I would like. While waiting for authorisation to use this forum, I emailed Jonathan Lilycrop at the EBU as below and he was able to tell me how to fix the problem.
Thanks again Jonathan

My email message
One of the clubs I play at has recently updated their computer. Since this happened, there have been a couple of changes in behaviour of the Bridgemates:
1.They no longer provide the option to see the scores at other tables once a results has been input. Instead, I believe they offer the chance to see the pairs' rankings, but I'm not sure of the exact details as partner always sits N or E and gets quite shirty if North passes the Bridgemate to me as West to accept a score :-(.
2.The Bridgemates don't get the names immediately so we can't check that we've entered our EBU numbers correctly. I know how to push the names to the Bridgemates after the event has started up, but it would be nice for them to be sent automatically.
I suspect that there are some settings somewhere in EBUPairs that will control this (accessible via Bridgemate Scoring > Set BCS options) but there are many, many options there and I'd appreciate it if you would point me towards one or two likely candidates.
Jonathan's reply:
As you say go to Bridgemate Scoring and then Set BCS Options. In the top left quadrant make sure show previous results is ticked, shown own result is ticked and show percentage of own result is ticked.
To fix the names do the following:
In EBUScore go to Player Database and click Download EBU Database and follow the on-screen prompts.
Then do this to ensure that Bridgemate Control Software is looking in the right place for the lookup file:
Start Bridgemate Control Software
Go to Tools --> Options --> General
Click File Locations
In the second section "BMPlayerDB.mdb database file" choose Other folder and click Select folder
Double click C:\ at the top
Double click EBUScore
Click Close
Click OK
Thats not right....
Go to Bridgemate > Admin screen and click the "Set Lookup File location" to c:\EBUScore. This updates the registry location shared with the Bridgemate Control Software.
The recommended instruction assumes the Lookup File location is set in the program, but is unnecessary anyway once you have clicked the "Set Lookup File" button!!
I'm not sure what you mean by "That's not right".
I would be surprised to hear that you mean "that won't work" as it appears that it did work.
If you mean "that's suboptimal" or "there's another way to do it", then thank you for providing alternative instructions. My intention was to share instructions that I believed (and continue to believe) work with others in future who encounter the same problem.
I you mean "there's a better way to do it" then please explain why it is better.
I you mean something else, then please expand.
Jonathans solution will only work if "c:\ebuscore" was previously set in the Lookup File Location. Otherwise it wont work. This location used to be "c:\" or in AppData in the various versions over the years and is whatever the user has put there.
The correct method is to Click the Set Lookup File Location in the program to wherever bmplayerdb.mdb is located.
This tells BCS where it is held.
