Law 29A

I was looking at some former questions set for TD assessment and a few of the recommended answers have confused me. It is a 2007 paper but didn't think this particular item was affected by subsequent changes. So,
Q ) Following a call out of rotation either opponent may accept the call. A True/False decision is required with a Law Reference
The answer claims this is TRUE and cites Law 29A
First, I thought only the LHO could accept the call.
Second, Law 29A only refers to LHO
So, I would have answered FALSE.

Grateful for any thoughts

You are correct on both counts. Law 29A has not changed during the last 3 lawbooks.

Assuming this is a physical bit of paper you are reading, any chance of taking a picture of it and sharing it?
If not, how about a screenshot?

  • I had a look at Laws of duplicate 1997 but they were about the same as 2007 Laws. Can only assume an error. But willing to hear anything different,

  • I suspect that the exam is based on 1997 laws - as the 2007 Laws were not in use until 2008, and I expect the exam would say 'Law Book 2007' or 'Law Book 2008' if it wanted candidates to use the new law book.

The earliest version I have is 2013, which was updated for 2007 law book. There is nothing corresponding to question 18 in 2007, and no answer references Law 29. So the erroneous answer was not continued.

The exam was revised again in 2017/18 for the new laws. More recent versions of the exam are still in use so neither the questions or the answers are made public.

  • Do they still do Panel TD exams? The latest one shown is 2009.

I'd love to have a go at a recent one!

    As I said

The exam is part of the process of promoting TDs within the panel. It continues to be used - even when TDs were only working online. It would compromise the process if the exam were made public while panel TDs are still 'taking' the exam.

    Sorry I missed that.
